This ensemble class will feature the exotic and sumptuous sounds of Sepharad: music from the ancient Spanish empire as preserved in the communities of exiles who were expelled from Spain at the end of the fifteenth century. This incredible music contains traces of ancient Jewish and Moorish roots along with sounds of the Balkan, Turkish, North African, Greek, French and other cultures where the Sephardic exiles settled. Repertoire will include Romanceros, the Spanish courtship songs passed down through the ages, as well as Ladino folk songs and songs from the vibrant spiritual traditions of the Sephardic communities throughout the world.
